FAQ’s
YOU DESERVE THOUGHTFUL, HONEST SUPPORT—WHETHER YOU'RE IN THERAPY OR JUST STARTING TO EXPLORE.
General Therapy Questions
-
I support individuals and parents navigating complex trauma—including childhood emotional neglect, attachment trauma, identity-based trauma, and intergenerational patterns. I also work with people healing from PTSD, C-PTSD, and relational wounds.
-
Trauma-informed therapy centers emotional safety, client autonomy, collaboration, and cultural humility. It honors your survival strategies rather than pathologizing them and helps you build capacity to feel safe, regulated, and connected again.
-
PTSD often arises from a single traumatic event, while Complex PTSD stems from ongoing or repeated trauma—often in early relationships. Symptoms may include emotional dysregulation, relational struggles, chronic shame, or identity confusion.
-
Attachment trauma occurs when emotional needs go unmet in childhood. In adulthood, it can show up as people-pleasing, avoidance, fear of intimacy, perfectionism, codependency, or emotional disconnection—especially in close relationships or parenting.
-
It depends on your goals and how deep you’d like to go. Some people attend short-term for support or clarity, while others commit to longer-term healing work. We’ll revisit your goals together as therapy unfolds.
-
That’s completely valid. Many clients come to me after feeling unseen, dismissed, or pathologized elsewhere. Our work will center your voice, story, and nervous system—always grounded in consent and cultural responsiveness.
-
Sometimes, yes—but we’ll titrate the work so you stay resourced and grounded. You’ll never be pushed into painful emotions without tools to manage them. Therapy should be healing, not overwhelming.

Parenting Support & Cycle-Breaking
-
Parenting therapy helps caregivers understand how their own history impacts how they show up with their children. It supports you in breaking intergenerational cycles, regulating your nervous system, and building connection with your child through secure attachment and emotional attunement.
-
Yes. Many of the parents I work with are doing the brave work of healing while raising children. We’ll explore how your triggers and inner parts (like the inner child or inner critic) affect your parenting, and we’ll build tools for grounding, self-compassion, and connection.
-
My work focuses on parents and caregivers. Research shows that supporting you—the foundation of your child’s world—can lead to powerful change in your child’s emotional environment and long-term wellbeing.
-
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured method that helps the brain safely process trauma. Using bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping), we reprocess stuck memories, so they no longer feel overwhelming. EMDR is highly effective for trauma, and we only move forward when your nervous system is ready.
-
IFS is a compassionate, non-pathologizing approach that sees your mind as made up of different “parts”—like the inner critic, people-pleaser, protector, or wounded inner child. These parts developed to help you survive. In therapy, we build a relationship with them from your Self—your calm, curious, grounded center. IFS is especially powerful for trauma, shame, and inner conflict.
-
You don’t have to. We move at the pace of your nervous system, not a treatment plan. Some people come to therapy to build skills, explore self-awareness, or process current stressors. We’ll always center your consent and readiness.
-
Yes. My work is rooted in anti-oppressive, decolonized, and intersectional frameworks. I welcome and affirm BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, immigrant, and neurodivergent clients, and I approach all healing with cultural humility and an understanding of systemic trauma.
